India’s Technology Diplomacy Strategy Needs a Revamp Soon!
Technology diplomacy is crucial if India wishes to gain supremacy in the global quarters
Over the past couple of years, science and technology have made great strides in the growth and development of Indian industries, and it is due to this development that India is unarguably a part of the global tech pioneers’ community. Starting from the micro level to the macro level, research and development in the field of technology and science has grown significantly and has created a proper niche for the country to promote the overall growth of the economic condition of the country. Today, Indian technologies are being run by some of the largest companies in the world. India as a tech pioneer has become a tough competitor for other countries that are also tech innovators and are greatly dependent on these innovations. But critics claim, the country needs to strategize the power of its technology growth and use it for the right purposes. The country’s tech diplomacy strategy needs to transform for it to emerge as a global leader.
The concept of technology diplomacy has gone mainstream quite recently. It may or may not include social media and cybersecurity issues, but surely includes all the domains that fall between diplomacy and the internet. Basically, technology diplomacy is a country’s ability to efficiently handle international relations, dialogue, and negotiations on global digital policy and the evolving tech-based complexities among various states, societies, and other groups. The nature of tech-driven diplomacy may vary owing to the distinct needs of the citizens residing in the country. Now critics believe, as the country’s tech supremacy is growing, its high time the Indian government formulates an efficient tech-driven diplomatic strategy to establish its foothold in the global tech community.
Areas in which India should focus more
Global experts have claimed that the country must focus more on realizing and building on certain tech domains to make a universal impact. This strategy might actually help the country to support its tech exports and extend India’s international digital and technological footprint. For instance, semiconductor designing and IT services are some of the areas that garner large pools of human resources, and the Indian techies have proved themselves to be extremely competent in this aspect. Besides these, the government should also focus on attaining international cooperation. India is currently in no state to favor isolationism, especially from the global tech community.
As per experts, the process of worldwide collaboration starts with tackling the complexities that the high-tech domains are currently facing. Conducting conversations to build long-term technological relationships, facilitating technology transfer agreements between states, and countries, and engaging in taking responsibility to improve the efficiency of a particular technology are just a few examples of what the country can proceed with to establish tech-diplomacy with other countries. The Ministry of External Affairs can also include science in its technology diplomacy approach by appointing officials to lead diplomatic conversations in the field.
Bottom Line
It is needless to say that technology has become an integral part of our lives, but it can also become a crucial factor that enhances international relations, foreign policy, military, and defense. India is an aspiring tech power in the world, and if strategized properly the country can definitely meet global standards and advance its prospects.
